NYX Professional Makeup is a cruelty free brand that aims to bring professional makeup to the high street. They pride themselves on rich pigments, long-lasting formulas and a large range of colours and shades. The brand was founded in Los Angeles in 1999, but is now sold worldwide. In the UK, you can find cruelty free NYX Professional Makeup in Superdrug, Boots and Debenhams, but it is not widely available in supermarkets.
Is NYX Professional Makeup Cruelty Free?
NYX are certified cruelty free by Peta’s Beauty Without Bunnies program. Although we know this isn’t the most reliable cruelty free certification around, it is more secure combined with the knowledge that they don’t sell in-stores in Mainland China. NYX Cosmetics state on their website:
“NYX Professional Makeup is certified and acknowledged by organisations, such as PETA, as a cruelty-free brand. We are committed to producing 100% cruelty-free cosmetics. We do not test any of our products on animals.”
In order to be certified cruelty free by Peta, a brand must verify that they and their suppliers: do not conduct, commission, pay for, or allow any tests on animals for their ingredients, formulations, or finished products anywhere in the world and that they will never do so in the future.
However, NYX are owned by L’Oreal, a parent company that we know is not cruelty free. Click here to read about animal testing parent companies.
Are NYX Products Vegan?
NYX have quite a range of vegan products, and each one is marked with a vegan symbol on their online store. You can also visit their FAQs page (where their cruelty free statement is!) or use Superdrug Online to browse vegan-only products.
Are NYX a Sustainable Brand?
At the moment, NYX makeup haven’t said much about their efforts towards sustainability, but hopefully that will change in the years to come!
